In this article, let us look at a new widget that Revit Addin Wizard (RevitAddinWizard) provides, Source Pack & Go. As its name indicates, the widget is to help wrap up the current opened whole solution or any combinations of its projects and folders into a standard ZIP file with a chosen friendly naming convention and place it in a local folder or send it via an Outlook email, or both.
The ‘How to Pack …’ button can be clicked to set various packing, naming and timing options through the How to Pack dialog.
Before the packing happens, we can choose to save the solution changes or not, clean up the solution or not; when the package is being created we can choose to confirm to overwrite any existing ZIP files or not; more importantly, we can pack the solution with a particular password to have some security.
We can always use the solution name as the ZIP file name; we can also add a number suffix to the solution name and increment it automatically to avoid duplicate names; the most flexible and meaningful way is choose to time stamp the ZIP file name automatically not only to get the packing time appear in the name but also to void duplicate names.
Besides manually packing the solution whenenver we like, we can also choose for the Source Pack & Go to run automatically once in a while.
After the OK button is pressed, the How to Pack options will be saved and applied to the coming package right away. The same options will also be used as default from this moment on.
RevitAddinWizard will provide more and more and cooler and cooler widgets in the near future. Please stay tuned.
